Mathematical understanding and language develop interdependently for all students and with appropriate scaffolding and instructional supports, students become agents of their mathematical and linguistic sense-making. By incorporating specific language-supporting routines for math instruction, teachers can support the math and language learning of all students, especially those who are in the process of learning English. In this 2-hour virtual activity planning workshop, participants explore the ways students can make sense of tasks using language and plan an activity using one of those routines or strategies.
I integrate supports that enable all students to access key math concepts.
