Planning Activities with the 5 Practices: Work Time (IM Math 6-12)

Focus Area: IM Math K-12
Attendees:

Instructional Coaches, Teachers

Phase: Targeted Support

Available July 2024

Overview

Problem-based instruction is driven by student ideas and strategies that arise when they work on rich mathematical tasks. Teachers create the conditions to solicit these ideas and intentionally use them to facilitate each phase of an activity. In this 2-hour virtual activity planning session, participants will explore the student and teacher actions during the work time phase of an activity and how selecting and sequencing can encourage these practices.

Outcome

I create an environment that supports students to collaborate and communicate about their math thinking.
