Overview

This workshop is designed to serve as your learning community’s introduction to the IM Math K-5 Curriculum. Participants will have the opportunity to dive into the curriculum from a student perspective and use this experience to explore how the curriculum is designed for a problem-based approach to math instruction. The group will work together to develop comfort with the design and structure of curricular resources, and confidence in planning effectively.

I use the curriculum resources and structures to teach math with a problem-based approach.

Learning Experience

  • Define the key characteristics of a problem-based math curriculum and contrast these characteristics with other approaches
  • Explore the structure of activities, lessons, and units as well as the instructional routines, assessments, and centers built into the curriculum
  • Build a plan for implementing Unit 1 of the curriculum with their students
