Mathematical understanding and language develop interdependently for all students and with appropriate scaffolding and instructional supports, students become agents of their mathematical and linguistic sense-making. By incorporating specific language-supporting routines for math instruction, teachers can support the math and language learning of all students. This 2-hour virtual workshop focuses on the routines and strategies that enable students to make sense of tasks through and with language.
I create an environment that encourages students to communicate their mathematical thinking with each other.
