Overview

This workshop focuses on integrating research-based strategies for fostering student engagement and differentiation in the math classroom. Participants will explore ways to create inclusive learning environments, adapt tasks to meet the needs of diverse learners and assess understanding effectively. In this 1-day in-person workshop, teachers will engage in hands-on activities and collaborative discussions, then make a plan to apply the skills and strategies in their classrooms.

Outcome

I engage and support students in lessons that promote reasoning and problem-solving.

Learning Experience

  • Define engagement and differentiation in mathematics to create inclusive math classrooms
  • Define the role of assessments in informing instructional decisions and supporting differentiation to effectively meet diverse learner needs
  • Explore strategies and approaches to adapting and scaffolding tasks for reasoing and problem solving
  • Explore specific needs and approaches to addressing special populations such as English Learners, students with disabilities, gifted students and other math difficulties
  • Build a plan to differentiate an upcoming lesson based on identified student needs
  • Build a plan to effectively assess student understanding according to learning goals
