Discourse plays a vital role in literacy development. It is through discourse that we academically engage, instruct, and scaffold literacy. Through discourse, we also develop ownership through socialization, voice, and participation. The academic and student-centeredness of instruction support one another. In this workshop, participants will define student-centered literacy, explore strategies, protocols, and systems to support student discourse and plan to implement discourse in their classroom.
I plan high-quality 3-8 learning experiences that continue to develop students’ ability to elicit meaning from oral and written language by consistently providing all students access to the necessary exposure and practice with language domains* covering grade-level content.
