Overview
This 1-day workshop supports classroom teachers and department chairs of all subject areas, coaches, school leaders, and instructional staff who support the development of various literacy skills for students in grades 6-8 and 9-12 with developing students’ literacy proficiencies within a research-based, student-centered, comprehensive literacy program that considers and acts upon the instructional, organizational, and mindset shifts necessary to accelerate learning, fill identified instructional gaps, and provide students with the literacy skills necessary for becoming successful, contributing global citizens.

Learning Experience
- Define the concepts Student-Centered Classroom, Science of Reading, and Comprehensive Literacy in order to clarify misconceptions, engage in critical dialogue, and develop a common understanding of the meaning and instructional implications behind these important concepts.
- Explore what research says about effective literacy instruction and accelerating learning in order to explain the elements of high-quality comprehensive literacy instruction for students in grades 9-12 and the importance of identifying and providing instruction for students who have identified skill gaps in one or more areas of literacy.
- Build a strategic plan for reflecting on their current instructional practices for comprehensive literacy, including systems for assessment, in order to identify areas of program and instructional refinement aligned to research.
