Overview

In this virtual workshop, participants will learn about strategies for learning about the various identities that their students bring with them to math class, and for supporting students in developing the kind of positive mathematical identities that allow them to fully access and enjoy Algebra 1.

  • Participants will need a computer with access to Zoom, a camera, a microphone, and stable Internet connectivity

Learning Experience 

  • Define the impact of identity on a student’s learning experience, specifically in math classes
  • Explore their own experiences as math learners and how their personal experiences may have impacted their ideas about what math is, who it is for, and for what purpose
  • Build a plan around a specific strategy for learning about the personal and mathematical identities of their students
