Overview

Learning tasks have many goals: introducing new material, group work, discussion, assessment, and more. Blending Learning with technology integration can make those tasks even more meaningful by creating opportunities for students to use their voice and engage with concepts. In coaching or in a Virtual Workshop, participants will:

  • Define the 10 principles of blended learning tasks
  • Explore real life scenarios, including the use of technology tools and strategies like choice boards
  • Build and get peer feedback on their plan for effective blended learning tasks

Audience

This workshop is intended to support teachers in implementing blended learning by effective learning tasks in their in-person classrooms. Leaders and coaches could also benefit from this session to gain ideas on how to best support their teachers in implementation.

Specifications

  • 2 hours
  • Participants will need a computer with a camera, microphone and Internet access

Outcome

I actively engage students by building meaningful tech-based learning tasks.

Learning Experience

Define

  • Understand the goals of the session and reflect on learning tasks to evaluate their success.
  • Develop a shared understanding of the 3 pillars (purpose, strategy, modality) of student-centered tasks and how they are best implemented in blended learning. To do this, participants will use a jigsaw strategy to collaborate in small breakout groups.

Explore

  • Explore scenarios and examples of student-centered learning strategies and tools to gain ideas through a playlist, using the virtual presentation tool Sutori.
  • Narrow their focus to gather ideas for building a task in their own context.

Build

  • Design a student-centered learning task by identifying the purpose, strategy, and modality of the learning.
  • Evaluate a task and determine how it can be best implemented in a blended learning environment.
