Overview

Student learning has been shown to be tied directly to their sense of safety, belonging, and respect in their classroom environment. As educators, cultivating this inclusion takes patience, deliberate steps, and a knowledge of how students think and feel. In this 2 hour virtual workshop, we will define what ‘classroom culture’ really means by unpacking its major components so that we can build and refine our classrooms for all students to thrive.

Audience

This experience is optimized for classroom teachers K-12, as well as paraprofessionals. With modifications, it can be done for instructional leaders as well.

  • What is classroom culture? Review the components of classroom culture through examples.
  • Unpack the ideas behind belonging, inclusion, and classroom values.

Explore

  • Use scenarios of classroom culture breakdowns to understand root causes and inclusion strategies to address it.
  • Explore the ‘year long’ culture tuning cycle, and reflect o the current stage of culture in schools and classrooms.

Build

  • Identify inclusion strategy for a selected component of classroom culture and modify the strategy for specific grade level and subject areas.
