In this design workshop, participants will have the opportunity to increase their comfort and skill with defining key terms and examining how equity impacts student outcomes, and learn how to respond to prejudice, stereotypes and microaggressions. Participants will also explore culturally responsive strategies that can help to effectively meet students’ learning needs and create a plan for next steps in their equitable practices journey. In this hands-on, collaborative experience, participants will develop a mutual understanding of equitable teaching practices in order to recognize the importance of and pursuit of justice for all students in their learning experience. Participants will reflect on their practice and will align on current systemic inequalities and injustices to inform the creation of an implementation plan.
This product is designed for teachers, leaders, and administrators that are looking to confront inequity and use their agency to analyze implicit bias and work towards creating equitable systems. This session is introductory and appropriate for educators at the beginning of or developing their understanding of culturally responsive teaching and learning practices.
This design workshop investigates the inequities in educational practices (awareness) while identifying ways to take steps in the classroom and school to further learn about ourselves as educators and our students (action).
Define what equitable teaching practices are by learning what culturally responsive teaching and learning is, why it’s important, and the impacts of equity when present or absent from instruction and culture.
Explore strategies that can be used to be responsive to bias, prejudice, stereotypes, or microaggressions as well as culturally responsive teaching and learning strategies that can be integrated into instruction. Participants start building a bridge between their reality and resources that will support them.
Build actionable next steps by developing a plan, collaborating and sharing with peers, and receiving feedback.
