Coaching can’t be successful in a toxic environment. Even the best coaches can’t combat a systemic climate that runs counter to the goal of high levels of teaching and learning. Instructional leaders who serve as coaches will struggle in supporting teachers until a culture characterized by improvement is normalized across the organization. Instructional leaders at the district and campus levels must reckon with and address the broader organizational culture, and how it either helps or hinders continuous improvement efforts. As educational leaders aim to improve student outcomes, tools are needed to begin the work by focusing on coaching educators at every level across the organization. This 2-hour virtual workshop presents tools, strategies, and considerations for establishing a culture of continuous improvement which holds great promise to positively impact all aspects of teaching and learning.
