Overview

Instructional leaders are charged to lead and support curriculum launches. Oftentimes, there exists multiple curriculums across subjects with a plethora of components, resources, and structures all crucial to high-quality implementation. Since curriculum implementation is a multi-year undertaking, leaders must develop a phased-in approach that prioritizes pressing instructional needs with key aspects of the newly adopted curriculum. Once curriculum has been launched, leaders must then be prepared to support teachers to continue to “unpack” the curriculum resources, strategies, and structures that improve teaching and learning. Supporting teachers in understanding the fundamentals of the curriculum requires ongoing professional learning that provides a deeply- based contextual knowledge that meets the needs of their students. Therefore, professional learning that is rooted in ongoing, active experiences that prompt teachers to change their instructional practices, expand their content knowledge, and challenge their beliefs is required, and a core function of instructional leadership. This 2-hour virtual workshop is designed to provide an overview of sustainable best practices for leading and supporting the implementation of newly adopted curriculum.
