Overview

Open Up Resources Math K-5 units are designed to tell a mathematical story that helps students explore concepts and develop number sense over time. To bring this to life, teachers need to understand the learning progression of a unit and how the lessons are sequenced to help students build fluency over time. In this 2-hour virtual workshop, participants will choose an upcoming unit to collaboratively plan in-depth.

This workshop can be completed as a stand-alone or as part of the Planning for Problem-Based Math series. Explore both workshops in the series below:

Outcome

I leverage the curriculum’s problem-based structures to plan meaningful learning experiences for my students.

Learning Experience

  • Define: The structure of a unit and how the learning experiences are sequenced to build students’ conceptual understanding over time. Define the learning goals of a specific upcoming unit
  • Explore: The learning progression of the unit and the implications for how to pace the lessons and when to pause to reinforce key concepts
  • Build: A plan for teaching the unit in a way that supports problem-based math learning within their individual school context
