The 5 Practices for Orchestrating Productive Mathematical Discussions provide teachers with a framework for intentionally soliciting student thinking and organizing specific student ideas in a discussion that supports all students in the class to develop their conceptual understanding. This work is complex, however, the curriculum embeds guidance in it for teachers to engage students in these practices. In this 2-hour virtual workshop, teachers are introduced to the 5 Practices and how they are intentionally integrated into lessons.
This workshop can be turned into a 3-session series that provides teachers with the chance to try out the activities they plan in between meetings and then come back together to share their learnings and collaborate around further plans as they dive deeper into each practice.
