Mathematical understanding and language develop interdependently for all students and with appropriate scaffolding and instructional supports, students become agents of their mathematical and linguistic sense-making. By incorporating specific language-supporting routines for math instruction, teachers can support the math and language learning of all students, especially those who are in the process of learning English. This workshop introduces teachers to how these math language routines are embedded into the IM 6-12 Math curriculum by experiencing and planning for one of those routines.
This workshop can be followed by any or all of our Facilitating Math Language Routines workshops to provide teachers with the chance to try out the activities they plan in between meetings and then come back together to share their learning while learning about new routines.
