Social-Emotional Learning

The Phases of a Successful Implementation

Strategically implementing social-emotional learning practices throughout every classroom requires differentiated training for your teachers, buy-in from all educators, and a clear path to success. Our comprehensive professional learning plans are built from four distinct phases to support educators at all levels throughout your district.

Build Your Foundation with the BL Lab

Serving as the central hub for your professional learning program, the BL Lab is where professional learning happens. Teachers can use the BL Lab to access actionable social-emotional learning resources and strategies, work with their instructional coach, and measure their progress towards their desired classroom outcomes.

Instructional leaders gain access to a large library of social-emotional learning self-directed courses to give PLCs ongoing opportunities for learning and to support new teachers with additional training any time throughout the school year.

Administrators gain a comprehensive view of the status of their professional learning programs and easy access to learning progress across multiple cohorts of educators.

The Phases of Social-Emotional Learning

Launch

Designed to give your team the chance to collaborate and normalize new concepts, language, and social-emotional learning practices, our in-person launch experiences bring together the teachers, instructional leaders, and building leaders that will work together to implement social-emotional learning practices throughout the district.

Launching Social-Emotional Learning | In-Person
Educators can identify inequities in educational practices while identifying ways to take steps in the classroom and school to further learn about ourselves as educators and our students.

Planning

Teachers engage in job-embedded Coaching with a specially matched coach to receive personalized support for enacting social-emotional learning practices. Using the Try-Measure-Learn method, coaches guide teachers to plan lessons, try new strategies, and measure the impact for students.

Educators work with a coach to create sustained shifts in practice aligned to target outcomes using our Try-Measure-Learn approach.

Assess Progress

Know what effective social-emotional learning looks like in the classroom, how to support teachers to achieve their target outcomes, and build your ongoing learning plan for continuous improvement. Learning Walks are a non-evaluative tool that helps instructional leaders identify and celebrate new social-emotional teaching practices.

Learning Walk Cycle | In-Person
Leaders can identify evidence of the target outcomes in the classroom and in student learning.

Targeted Support

Virtual Workshops offer teachers the opportunity to collaborate and build an actionable plan to create the social-emotional learning changes you want to see in classrooms. With the guidance of a facilitator, teachers will set goals, identify manageable next steps, and create a path to work towards their chosen outcomes.

Build a Comprehensive Learning Plan, Tailored to your District’s Needs

Successfully implementing social-emotional learning practices throughout a district can take one to three years, depending on your district’s size. Our comprehensive learning plans incorporate in-person, virtual, group, and self-directed learning experiences throughout the full school year to support sustainable changes in practice. Our team will create a learning plan that is tailored to your district’s strategic plan, and includes a mix of learning experiences backed by research and focused on target outcomes.

Focus on Achievable Outcomes

Outcomes are the goal of all of our learning experiences. Each experience is tied to an outcome to ensure that changes are measurable and impactful for both students and teachers. For Social-Emotional Learning, we focus on helping educators achieve the below outcomes.

“I loved every second of the coaching I received. My BetterLesson coach was so encouraging and it absolutely contributed to my level of confidence and willingness to take risks. As a result, I have begun to incorporate new and more varied processes to my educational practice in my classroom. What a fabulous growth experience!”

“I have been highly impressed with both of the coaches that I have experienced - they are knowledgeable and helpful. It did not seem like a 2 hour meeting.”
